Age: 37.

From: Rathfarnham, Dublin, now based in Wicklow.

Courage from Covid: “Lockdown gave me the push to set up my business,” says Niamh. In July 2020, this food nutritionist and food stylist had less work and more free time. So she started NB Goods, a natural lifestyle store, which sells ethically sourced, sustainable products, including candles, hand-made soaps and body brushes. She sources many local products and supports female-run businesses that also started during the pandemic.

Open for business: First it was online, then she found a space for her store. She opened the doors in November and then, with another lockdown, she had to close. Now she’s very much open for business and she notices how people enjoy browsing in the shop — picking things up, smelling the candles and soaps, getting a real feel for the products. She enjoys meeting her customers and conversations. “The locals are very supportive.”

Variety: Niamh has tried many lives for size. After she had glandular fever, she was inspired to study nutritional therapy. She worked as a chef in London, studied cookery in Ballymaloe and opened a coffee shop — Urbun — in Cabinteely with her friend. She left for new adventures.

Motivated: “When you work for yourself, you take on more roles. I enjoy the challenge.”
