The first impression of the Cotton Gin Village is that the setting is so beautiful and peaceful. The sound of the multiple waterfalls is mesmerizing. There are Koi in the fish ponds that are lovely. The entire area is wooded and shady. The cottages are rustic looking, and inviting. We stayed in the Red River South cottage and everything about it was perfect. The decor is charming and no detail has been overlooked. There was a Jacuzzi bathtub in the bathroom, with a lovely tile surround. Fresh, fluffy towels were provided daily. The bathroom toiletries are wonderful! They are from Fredericksburg Farms and include fabulous goat milk soap and lotion, and the best smelling hand cleaner. There is a fireplace in the living area, and they even include the makings for S’Mores. In the winter, firewood is left each day on the porch right outside of the door. The cabins all have huge covered porches, complete with gliders so that you can simply relax and stare at the waterfalls.
Breakfast is included and is unbelievable! It is delivered to the cabin each morning around 9:00 am and is brought in the most adorable picnic basket and is left at the door. This is a full, huge, breakfast! We stayed four nights and breakfast was different each morning, but all were simply delicious. There is a hot course, a pastry course, fresh fruit, either yogurt or homemade granola, and fresh orange juice. You can eat in the cabin, or at one of the outdoor tables where you can enjoy the waterfalls and the trees. The breakfast is so large that we didn’t want anything else to eat until dinner. The Cabernet Grill restaurant is right on the premises, so you don’t have to venture far to enjoy the best restaurant in Fredericksburg. This was our first visit to Cotton Gin Village, but it will definitely not be our last.
